The Clare Museum has acquired Frederic William Burton’s 1849 watercolour “Portrait of a Woman.” Burton was born in Wicklow County, but spent his youth in Clifden House in Corofin, which impacted his work. He went on to become a well-known portrait painter in the nineteenth century and the Director of the National Gallery in London.
Clare County Museum
The Museum’s goal is to collect, conserve, interpret, and present material culture related to County Clare’s history, both in the museum building and online, as an educational resource and a socially inclusive cultural service for Clare residents and visitors.
